GNR 1.12 - Major Decisions

Welcome to Rapture News Radio....no, Hostile News Radio....no, Galaxy News Radio episode 12. In this episode, we talk about some problems on the forums, some Mothership Zeta news, and major decisions we made in the game and why.

  1. That was some pretty important stuff, yup yup.

The podcast is still young so I'm for any awesome changes you guys wanna make. In game or podcast wise.

  2. Re Tenpenny Tower alternate door on the 360.
you can enter it, but there is an uaccessable door round the other side. if you go round the balcony behind tenpenny, then you reach the alternate tenpenny suite door.

possible that sally is attempting to enter through the wrong door? or it may be you need to kill tenpenny or one of the security guards to get the key to open it.

you still cant go out the main door to the suite though.

  4. Love the intro - truly epic, very impressed, though having listened to your podcasts, there is a recurring theme: A tad of monotony through perhaps being a little disorganised.

I am certainly not putting you guys down, you know what you're talking about and I can't find flaw in the actual content, and as a freebie? I have nothing to complain about.

My only suggestions to perhaps take the podcast forward and make it more friendly to listen to:

Firstly, perhaps try a modular approach - you do a great job of freestyling for an hour, but it's truly difficult to keep it interesting for this long - so maybe introduce some audio sections, each focusing on a particular aspect, such as your introductions, then launch into an 'upcoming' section, then a 'review' or 'tips for veterans' etc (I realise these examples bite, but you get what I mean) - it gives you an excuse to add some awesome stings with some sound effects and music. This takes me onto my next point...

Secondly - Music! A 'Bed' track would be a great way of breaking up the occasional monotonous silence or 'ums' and 'uh's' - something non-intrusive in the background, perhaps some neon-retro classic tracks such as those featured in the game! Even at very low-volume, this can really add VIBRANCE to your podcast (I realise the legality of such tracks can be inhibitive, so find some stuff you need at www.podsafeaudio.org - plenty of music you can use there which fits the bill - and it's free!).

And lastly, the only thing I can really think of to tighten-up the show is to have an idea of what you want to talk about beforehand, and stick to it - it's great to freeform, but sticking to the topic means your listeners will remain engaged - if you have an amusing anecdote, try to keep it on topic, sometimes you get the feeling that it's 3 guys in a basement doing drugs and talking about when the pizza's going to arrive. SPEAK WITH AUTHORITY! You don't need to prove that you know what you're talking about, people choose to listen to YOU! So give them what they want :D

Guh, sorry for this ungodly length of post, but I love you guys' podcast, and I work on Community Radio myself in the UK, and I thought I'd share a few of the things I've learned over the years.

I used to run a podcast myself for EVE-Online, and we ran into the exact same scenarios.

And ultimately, if you find it difficult to pad-out an hour of audio, trim it to a half-hour! Better for 30 minutes of ZING! than an hour of drumming your fingers.

Anyway, in closing, you've a dedicated fan here, and I look forward to all of your podcasts. I'm just pissed off that, as a PS3 and PC gamer, I chose the wrong format for DLC ;) - September can't come quickly enough, I mean, how long can it take for Bethesda to add Trophies to the PS3 version?

    Gah.

    Peace.

  6. We don't actually freestyle, we know what we're talking about. It just seems like we don't.

  7. So was the ideal sleepover with Fawkes and Oprah planned or did that just sneak up out of the blue? I had to rewind to make sure I heard that right.... musta laughed my ass off for about 5 minutes. Then she decides there are vampires outside so its cool to eat the baby? Am I hearing this right? Good God thats hilarious.

  9. RE to above: No they are not. That is a stupid question! It was a joke character where he acted prejudice towards a certain type of character. It wasn't even like the color of a person. Its not like they are saying they are saying the hate races or something.... mini rant done.

Ryan was getting so pissed in the middle when you guys were getting off topic, it made me lol. Also, Jay and Silent Bob would be awesome! I can't believe no one else know who they are >.>

"If you look at your wrist, it pauses time. Thats magic!" (or something like that) What a great quote.

    Mid-way through the podcast you guys (excluding Ryan) got WWWAAAYYYY off topic. Normally it doesn't matter cause its funny, but it got pretty dumb ^_^;

Kevin, since when have you had a lisp? Did you get braces?

Referring to Ep. 11: I forgot who is the stealthy person, I think Kevin (The one sally calls a wuss) You say the Shock sword is the best, well actually if you get the Pyrotechnic perk with the Shishkebab is quite a bit better ^_^ Just saying.

  10. We're not racist, its just that Kevin specifically is a bit insensitive to some things, but very sensitive to others.
